Who can Become a New York Notary? Applicants for the New York Notary Commission must be 18 years of age at the application date. Applicants must be:
Attorneys who are licensed in New York State, may also apply for the Notary commission without taking the examination in New York. Those who have been convicted of a felony in New York, any state or territory of the United States; cannot become a Notary. If an applicant has had such a history, they may be able to speak with the Chief Legal Counsel for New York or the office of Notaries Public in New York State located at the Department of State in Albany, NY. Those who have had a conviction and are able to obtain a Certificate of Good Conduct may be able to apply for the Notary Public commission. |
