Who can become a New York Notary?

Any one of 18 years of age or older, who is a New York State resident or works in New York State can become a Notary.

 

How many questions are on the Notary examination in New York?

There are forty (40) multiple-choice questions on the examination for New York State.

 

How expensive is it to take the Notary examination in New York State?

The examination for New York Notaries cost $15.00 every time that an applicant takes it.

 

What is the passing score for Notary the examination in New York?

The passing score is only 70%.  We feel that is to low for a Notary passing rate.  If you pass with only this percentage, you will not know 30% of what you must as a Notary Public for New York State.

 

How many times can I take the examination for New York State?

An applicant can take the Notary examination as many times as they need to do so.  They must pay the $15.00 fee every time they take the examination.  We of course want you to take the examination only once and pass!

 

How do I get the Notary examination result?

Examination results may take up to 15 business days to arrive to the recipient. If it has been more than 15 days applicants should call the New York Department of State in Albany, NY.
